Elaine Camlin Visual Artist

I grew up in Wagga Wagga, moving to Canberra to study printmaking at the ANU School of Art before returning home to embrace a regional practice with strong roots in the community. My practice moves beyond traditional printmaking to incorporate a broad range of experimental drawing and printmaking techniques. Working in varied modes provides a platform to document the ephemeral nature of growth and decay and the vital role of regeneration in our environment.

With a continuing exploration of tangible and imaginative organic objects, my work is informed by personal memories and moments. Intrigued with found objects often forgotten, overlooked and decaying, our relational engagement with these forms speaks to the vast possibilities our natural environment has to offer.

My practice brings together a passion for printmaking and community engagement. In my practice I strive to connect through accessible programs, developing and fostering creative communication and well-being. Recent projects include:

– Unique State Art Space, established as part of Renew Wagga.

– The Multicultural Woman’s Art Group, a partnership with Startts NSW and Create Hub Riverina.

– Development and facilitation of the Young at HeART program at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, a space for new parents to explore play based creative activities.

– Printmaking tutor for RegenerART, Art for Mental Healing in communities impacted during the Black Summer bushfires. Facilitated by Tumut Art Society.

– Pandemic Print Exchange (PPE), bringing together 38 artists working in isolation across Australia and Internationally during the 2020 global Covid-19 pandemic.

– I currently work as a Studio Assistant/ Mentor at The Art Factory Supported Studio.
