Elaine Camlin

I grew up in Wagga Wagga, moving to Canberra to study printmaking at the ANU School of Art before returning home to embrace a regional practice with strong roots in the community. As a printmaker and art therapist I seek to contribute to an active cultural scene by developing accessible programs for creative communication and well-being through my business, Unique State Art Space.

With a desire to maintain my creative arts practice, I currently explore the notion that an artist’s hands are tools of implicit knowledge, with works investigating abstract self-portraiture, memory and intuitive mark-making. This practice moves beyond traditional printmaking to incorporate a broad range of experimental drawing and printmaking techniques.

Working across varied modes provides a platform to interpret thematic considerations through the lens of place, with an interest in the ephemeral nature of growth and decay and the vital role of regeneration in our environment. With a continuing exploration of tangible and imaginative organic objects, my work is informed by personal memories and moments. Intrigued with found objects often forgotten, overlooked and decaying, our relational engagement with these forms speaks to the vast possibilities our natural environment has to offer.
