ABOUT EM

Em Shannon is an approachable and passionate Wagga-based artist and educator with over 8 years of professional experience delivering high-quality community engagement projects and exhibiting in solo and group shows.

Alongside her art practice, Em brings extensive experience working across the disability and education sectors, including primary and high school teaching, leading professional teams, coordinating community toddler music groups, and running exercise programs as a physiotherapist. She is skilled at working with a wide range of audiences and community groups.

Em holds current teaching registration (K–12), a Working With Children Check, First Aid certification, and public indemnity insurance. She is ready to collaborate and help bring creative projects and events to life.

RECENT COMMUNITY ART PROJECTS

In April 2026, Emily was engaged to develop Stand Strong, a street-wide community art project celebrating the youth of Wagga Wagga as part of the 2023–26 Wagga City Council Public Art Plan. The work was developed through a series of youth-led workshops.

In 2025, Emily created a mural wrapping around the West Wyalong Youth Centre in collaboration with local young people. This project was named a finalist in the 2025 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards (Community Partnerships – Under 150K Population).

Also in 2025, Emily worked with the Coolamon community on a mural commemorating 20 years of the Up2Date Art Show.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICE

In addition to traditional mediums, Em works with sustainable processes including papermaking, botanic ink and lake pigment creation, eco printing, and chlorophyll printing. She is passionate about developing her own materials from found and foraged sources and continues to refine these experimental processes.

In 2025, she further developed her papermaking practice during a month-long residency at Wagga Art Gallery. She regularly facilitates workshops across public, private, and corporate settings, and is also an experienced digital artist who has developed and delivered Procreate courses.

PAINTING PRACTICE

Em’s painting practice explores colour, shape, and texture across canvas and paper. Inspired by the botanical world, she creates loose florals and abstract landscapes, often influenced by the changing skies and environment of Wagga Wagga since relocating from Melbourne in 2023.
